“Seiväsjengi” was released on January 16, 2026.
Tero released the song Seiväsjengi on January 16, 2026. The track tells the story of a pole vaulting team whose most successful years were in the 1970s and 1980s, when Finland was still among the world’s elite in pole vaulting. The team still trains and jumps together, now also with young up-and-coming athletes, and the competitive spirit is still very much alive.
Tero’s Seiväsjengi was released just as members of Finland’s Pole Vault Hall of Fame honorary club were being recognized in Pajulahti on January 17, 2026.
When he was young, Tero cleared 4.90 meters. In his final competition in 1980, Antti Kalliomäki set a Finnish record of 5.66 meters, jumping just nine centimeters short of the world record. In the same competition, Rauli Pudas also set his personal best at 5.60 meters, and Tapani Haapakoski at 5.55 meters. Today, that would be equivalent to three Finns clearing well over six meters.
Tero stopped pole vaulting far too early, but later started jumping again. He hadn’t seen his old training partners in a long time, but they welcomed him back immediately and the practices began. Nowadays, the pole vault crew meets for training twice a week and goes on a training camp every year.
The song lists the most common technical mistakes in pole vaulting, and even though the oldest members of the crew are already over 70 years old, they haven’t lost their competitive edge. The track flows along in a relaxed reggae rhythm.
